After a 2 year hiatus it time to brush off The Rapper Infirmary category (we aren’t really comprehensive around these parts)! Talk about bad luck, Drake has to be the first rapper to suffer a serious injury only to re-injure himself months later (we wonder if he jinxed himself saying he wasn’t going to let the injury stop him only days before the tour started?). Hopefully dude bounces back soon. It would be truly gully if he continues the tour in a Wheelchair after he gets the knee surgery, it’s not like it would be foreign to him.

Jay, as always, is the voice of reason. I really don’t need to see another rapper telling me he didn’t get knocked out while covering up his black eye. There’s a reason we haven’t really posted about any of these recent beefs; none of these rappers are writing disses as sharp as “The Bitch In Yoo” or “Malcolm”, for starters, but these feuds are also mostly lame and silly.

Phife Dawg’s long fight with diabetes recently took a new turn for the better, as the Queens native finally received a kidney transplant.

The new kidney comes after a waiting period of over two years, which saw Phife endure problems performing live and a dramatic weight loss through his dialysis treatment.

Originally diagnosed with diabetes in May of 1990, Phife admitted to not taking care of himself by eating the worst types of food for someone with his condition: fats, sweets, and alcohol.

By 1992 the Tribe member started to be debilitated by the illness, with his blood sugar level reaching fatal levels of near 1000 mg/dl, well over the normal 80-120 mg/dl.

The fight finally came to a head with Phife being put on dialysis in 2000.

In 2002, he was hospitalized after the condition continued to worsen.

Now with a new kidney, Phife’s illness with hopefully improve dramatically, giving the legendary Tribe member renewed physical energy.

Glad to see Malik’s health is improving. Hope “A Milli” paid for some of this. Below: A pretty dope Phife solo shot -too bad it’s a Tip diss. One of my favorite Hi-Tek beats.

Looks like Buckshot is home and well enough to do the Macarena. From the press release:

While it’s still unclear what caused the seizures, Doctors believe that Buckshot was physically drained and became severely dehydrated to the extent  that caused his body to shut down and suffer 9 seizures in less than 1 day.  Buckshot was in good spirits today as he left the hospital, and is looking forward to his next endeavors as he prepares to finish his group project with KRS-ONE, begin work on his third album with super-producer 9th Wonder, as well as a 4th studio album from BLACK MOON (DJ EVIL DEE and 5FT).
In a statement this morning, Buckshot said "I want to thank all the fans who called and wrote emails extending their well wishes and prayers. All the support helped me recover that much quicker."

Upon returning from a 3 week European tour Black Moon and Boot camps front man, Buckshot suffered what appears to be a series of seizures. He was immediately hospitalized where he remains in stable condition. Buckshot’s partner and CEO of Duck Down Records, Dru Ha, stated: “While of course we are disappointed to have to reschedule a sold out show obviously nothing takes precedent over Buckshot’s health. If he could walk out of that hospital on his own right now I know he would have been on that stage. He was truly looking forward to this night.”

The show has been rescheduled for November 8th where all tickets will be honored.

I saw Buckshot live at Paid Dues and he gave one of the best performances of the night. He was full of energy on every song. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Double O from the hip hop group Kidz In The Hall was assaulted by several bouncers early Saturday morning, July 26, while inside a nightclub in Tempe, AZ following a Kidz In The Hall performance. Group member and friend Naledge, who did not witness the assault on Double O, was arrested outside of the club. Naledge’s attempt to get medical assistance for Double O was misconstrued as a hinderence to the investigation. Reports that no injuries were sustained are false as Double O was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries from the excessive force used by club security. On Sunday morning Double O underwent surgery for one of his injuries. He is still in the hospital, but in stable condition.

In the last 2 years, Kidz In The Hall have traveled to over 10 countries, have done 200+ shows and never before been involved in any altercation, big or small,  with club or concert security, or police officers.

Update:  Received word that Double O is expected to fully recover from his injuries.

I had no idea this existed. Mostly covers Ol’ Dirty’s release from prison while on parole. He sings old R&B with his mom, eats his first meal outside and comes on to a reporter at his press conference. Russell looks afflicted with the “bloat” in these clips, and seems kinda out of it the whole time. Still a must-see, period.

Best line of the whole thing:

“I thought that was a really nice gift for him to give me.”-ODB’s manager (I won’t reveal the context.)

Ghostface was mentioned earlier by BBoy so I thought this would fit in nicely. Not only is Ghostface getting cameos on NBC’s sitcom 30 Rock he is also starting his own Poker website, GFKPoker.com. He is a rapper that I feel like can’t do anything wack or doesn’t fit his persona if he tried. While I don’t know what success the Poker site will have it defiantly adds to his aura of being out there/random/innovative.

The equivalent of ‘Detox’?

In Dr. Dre news the doc is apparently is going to start producing movies, and not some straight to video, 1000 copies made minor league ish. He is going major with New Line Cinema. Can you imagine a horror re-cutting of the ‘The Wash‘?. Also Klaxons (a UK band who I’ve been digging as of late) wants to work with him. All of this is nice and all but, if this affects the release of Detox… then it officially becomes the Duke Nukem Forever of rap.

As of recently there are two east-cost MCs on the sideline;

Cassidy has well manicured nails *nh*.

Cassidy who, as I’m sure 99.9% of you know, was in a pretty bad car crash a few weeks ago. One minute he was freestylin, next minute he was flying out of his Chevy truck. He suffered a boatload of serious injuries, but now he is showing signs of improvement. (Sidenote on that link: did you HAVE to use his mugshot?)

*Rapper Cassidy recently regained consciousness after being hospitalized for injuries suffered in a car crash.      

The Philadelphia-based artist, whose real name is Barry Reese, suffered a fractured skull and multiple broken bones in his face. According to Allhiphop.com, doctors have performed CAT scans and so far, have found no abnormalities with his brain activity.     

Outlook: Doing radio interviews in 2 weeks.

After spending an evening at Justin’s (Diddy’s restaurant), F-a-b-o-l-o-u-s, somehow ended up in a brawl. This resulted in him getting shot in his thigh (Link Sidenote #2: Now MySpace is reliable news source??), and being whisked away by his weed carriers in a truck to the hospital. To add insult to injury, the police later pulled over the truck and found some unlicensed guns, and placed everyone under arrest.

Outlook: Album and/or single potentially pushed up to consign with the shooting. After getting patched up under some police supervision/arrest, no time on the sideline.
