Loyal readers know that every 50th post on ML is a pristine, blissful pop song. This time, it’s Solar Bears’ new single “Alpha People” which will appear on their album Supermigration.

A year later, Perseus’ remix of “Record Collection” is a seven minute blissful ode to the 80s pop-tinged fun of the original. It will appear on Record Collection 2012, a collection of remixes due out September 5. You can also listen to the Plastic Plates remix in The Magician’s Magic Tape 13 mix below. It starts at 3:57.

It’s offically summer. You know how I know? Nope, it has nothing to do with the heat that people are bitching about on twitter. It is because Arthur King’s annual Summer Mix is here. I almost didn’t want to post this so all you aggregating savage blogs don’t get a sniff, but this man deserves more shine. I’ve been following the guys work since I stumbled his Pop Sh*t mix about 5 years ago. Arthur is a maestro of seamless transitions, remixes, and edits of jams that go hand in hand like Kells and underage girl.

So check out the first 25 minutes of his Summer 2011 mix NOW:

On April Fool’s Day, we got DJ Burn One to remix Will Smith’s “Men in Black.” We thought it would be funny, but Burn reworked a cheesy childhood memory into a sleek after hours cruise. We knew we were onto something.

Hence Remix Lungies, ML’s own remix series, where take dope producers out of their element and have them rework pop songs. Today, Bossman, one of the unsung producers behind the wave of great music coming out of of Huntsville, Alabama, (note his skills here, here, here, here, and here) remixes Mike Posner’s “Bow Chicka Wow Wow.” He scrapped the jokey tone of the original and gave it a candied sheen. As the artwork (provided by the amazing Yumi Sakaki) suggests, this is poolside music.

Right after we approached him, Bossman lost power for five days because of the tornadoes that hit the Southern United States in April. The subdivision across the street from his house was destroyed, as well as the houses in front of and behind it. He told us he and his family are doing well.

Valentine a hopeful pop superstar from Ukraine reaches out to mega-producer Timbaland via the youtubes.

The result is.. well, let’s just say I haven’t laughed this hysterically in a while. I really hope Timbaland reaches out to dude, to make meme worthy music.

Our favorite whiteboy Mark Ronson is still on his wild Australian vacation with his band and they stopped by triple j (Aussie radio) to perform “Somebody to Love Me” from Record Collection and then cover “Solitude is Bliss” by Tame Impala. Rose Elinor Dougall, who appeared on three songs on Record Collection, sounds great singing psych rock. Watch the original after the break.

Ben Westbeech is a welcome digression from the current dance pop infestation. “Falling” is meant for the club, but it comes free of vocal effects, bubblegum synths, and Dr. Luke. Ben’s album There’s More To Life Than This comes out later this year.

“Why Even Try” reeks of the 80s, but it falls short of being just a hokey 80s throwback because Theophilus London injects cutting edge gaspy relationship raps, the kind of stuff Kid Cudi might rap about if he still bothered to rap. But if you can tolerate a song that’s two parts 80s pop, one part rap, you might really enjoy this. Diplo on the cuts.

I’ve been craving more MNDR since I heard her and Q-Tip make magic on “Bang Bang Bang.” Actually, I really caught the bug when I saw her on Letterman. Regardless, homegirl hits the electropop sweet spot. “Cut Me Out” is rhythmic, melodic and buzzing without all the cheese. Can’t wait for more.

Prematurely announcing your retirement is almost a rite of passage for artists. Lupe Fiasco, Game, and Kid Cudi have all announced their retirement from music at one point, probably after a lousy day or something. On Sunday, Jazmine Sullivan wrote on Twitter, “i’m making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music. i’m trying to figure out who i am… w/out a mike, paper or pen. i promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore i wouldn’t do it. and here i am..” But then she quickly deleted the tweets.

The good news is Salaam Remi leaked this unreleased/new song to cheer her up. Jazmine just needed to be reminded that she’s not a robot and she has one of the best producers around in her corner.
