Podcast: The Return of Doctor Funkenstein (10/30/07)

Podcast

This show we play some shit on that Halloween tip. It was a good one. We all thought it wouldn’t even get up because of a problem with the server. But shit worked anyway. So there.

Again, I gotta say that if you want to hear something all you have to do is ask.

Don’t finalize those “Best of 2007” lists just yet…

DJ01 already ran down the battle royale that will be December 4th, and while that is definitely the main event of the winter of ’07, there are plenty other upcoming Tuesdays that deserve getting circled on your calendar — December 11th is looking particularly crazy. “Subject to change” should go without saying, and a few of these (i.e. Busta) I highly doubt will stick to these dates. It’s almost over, y’all… what are YOU getting ready for?

November 6th

  • Cassidy – B.A.R.S.: The Barry Adrian Reese Story [New rule for rappers: if you’re going to put your real name in your album title, it can’t be “Barry”]
  • Jay-Z – American Gangster [I thoroughly enjoyed the 2-tracks-missing version that leaked recently… “No Hook” beat-jacks Sean Price from 2005… not trying to say anything, I’m just saying…]

November 7th

  • Cam’ron Glitter (that’s his name now, right?) – Public Enemy No. 1 (mixtape)

November 20th

  • Cormega – Who Am I? CD+DVD
  • David Banner – The Greatest Story Ever Told
  • Freeway – Free At Last [Plenty tracks to preview here]
  • Hi-Tek – Hi-Teknology 3: Underground

December 4th

  • 2Pac – The Best Of 2Pac – Pt. 1: Thug and Pt. 2: Life [Oh, those 2Pac-legacy-rapers, always coming up with original ideas… Tracklist courtesy of The Rap Up. I’ll credit ’em with at least throwing a couple curveballs in and not filling it up with strictly popular Pac songs, but with that comes the complaining about what they left off… How ’bout “Holla At Me” off All Eyez On Me? And if we’re including posthumous tracks, how ’bout “Teardrops & Closed Caskets” off Still I Rise?]
  • Busta Rhymes – Back On My BS
  • DJ Drama – Gangsta Grillz: The Album
  • Ghostface – The Big Doe Rehab
  • [I would’ve mentioned Mike Jones’ album on this bullet point, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. It’s a long story… he sucks… OK, it’s a short story…]
  • Saigon – The Greatest Story Never Told [Not to be confused with David Banner’s great story of an extremely-similar name]
  • Scarface – MADE
  • Styles P – Super Gangster, Extraordinary Gentleman [For a dude with so many nicknames, you’d think that SP The Ghost Holiday Paniro Styles P could come up with something different in his album titles]
  • Three 6 Mafia – Last 2 Walk [Well, Wikipedia says so… is MTV still playing “Doe Boy Fresh”?… did MTV ever play “Doe Boy Fresh” other than the season finale of Adventures in Hollywood?][Dj01 EDIT: Looks like Spring 2008 now.]
  • Wyclef Jean – The Carnival II: Memoirs Of An Immigrant

December 11th

  • Beanie Sigel – The Solution
  • Nas – N***** [In Nas’ quest to, among other things, make white bloggers feel uncomfortable, he has succeeded thus far]
  • Wu-Tang Clan – 8 Diagrams

December 18th

  • G-Unit – Shoot To Kill [Admit it — you can die peacefully now that there’s a sequel to “Magic Stick”]
  • Lil’ Wayne – Tha Carter III: The Leak (mixtape) [What a title, brings to mind that “Dear Mr. Toilet” line… actual album scheduled for February 12th]
  • Lupe Fiasco – The Cool [Remember that scene from Borat where he tries to shake hands with a guy in New York, and the guy straight up ran for his life? Think Lupe would react that way if you approached him with a boombox bumping Midnight Marauders? Somebody get on that]
  • Q-Tip – The Renaissance
  • Rick Ross – Trilla

December ??th

  • Joe Budden – Mood Muzik 3 (mixtape)

Etc.

  • Alchemist – Chemical Warfare [No date as of yet]
  • Pete Rock – NY’s Finest [Looking like January ’08]

December 4th, the day when hip-hop makes your ears explode.

  • Busta Rhymes-Back On My BS (Aftermath)
  • DJ Drama-Gangsta Grillz: The Album (Atlantic)
  • Ghostface-The Big Doe Rehab (Def Jam)
  • Mike Jones-The American Dream (Asylum)
  • Saigon-The Greatest Story Never Told (Atlantic)
  • Scarface-MADE (Rap-A-Lot)
  • Styles P-Super Gangster, Extraordinary Gentleman (Koch)
  • Three 6 Mafia-Last 2 Walk (Columbia/Sony)  Pushed back to Spring 2008.
  • Wyclef Jean-The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant (Columbia)

Fuck the Kanye/ 50 “showdown”. Probably half of these will get pushed back but it’s a nice thought of possibly having all of these drop on one day. Our pick to chart highest? Wyclef. (Sorry Ghost, hey, we are realists.) What’s your pick?

aaaand Wu Tang was supposed to originally drop on this day too?

Bo Ryan does the Soulja Boy Crank That dance.

Damn it, We know we said we weren’t going to talk about Soulja Boy’s music again. But PD, who you may remember from great ML work such as the TITC recaps, sent this in to me and I was obligated to you, our readers, to post this. I didn’t know dudes from Wisconsin had such good rhythm.

By the way, Soulja is on his 14.5 minute of 15.

Both Vegoose & Voodoo Music Experience are this weekend.

Not a band weekend to be a music fan with both the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans & Vegoose in Las Vegas going down. ML was supposed to cover both of these events but then a little bitch named school wasn’t having none of that. But fret not loyal ML readers, we got a contributor down in the 504 covering all three days of Voodoo and then over for Vegoose just head over to our good friend friend K. at the Analog Giant where he will be covering his first music festival with a sexy media pass. We aren’t jealous in the least, we swear.

For more information/Tickets on the Voodoo Music Experience here.

Esmée Denters, I Love You.

This YouTube phenom recently signed with JT’s label Tennman Records after a year of posting videos online, covering the likes of Beyoncé, Ne-Yo and throwing in her own improvisions. Looking at some of the old posts from nearly a year ago, it’s simply amazing how this Dutch beauty’s voice carries through even on a crappy webcam.

Look for big things from this girl.

Metal Lungies Hollers @ Hell Razah; Interview.

Hell Razah just released his new Album Razah’s Ladder yesterday on Babygrande. Its definitely a banger. We had a chance to talk with Razah last Friday. He had a lot to say regarding his new album, and he also let us in on some new projects he’s working on in the future. Big shout out to Alex from Killer Beez Promotions for hooking this up.

Hell Razah: Hello.

Metal Lungies: Hi, how are you doing?

HR: I’m good. I am alive and I thank God for that. I want to thank the Universal Father for breathing right now.

ML: You’ve got an album coming out soon and it’s very highly anticipated. Why are you releasing this album on Babygrande?

HR: The project is actually Blue Sky’s Black Death project featuring Hell Razah. I still work with Nature Sounds. I still have projects coming out through Nature Sounds and this is more of a collabo project. Blue Sky Black Death is already with Babygrande[sp]. It was more of a featuring thing for me. I just turned it into an album. Anything I touch — I am turning it into a classic.

ML: Why work with Blue Sky Black Death?

HR: I heard of them before and they sent me some beats . When I got the beats that they sent me, I was in love with the tracks. I heard 1 or 2 singles out of the beats they sent me. If they are sending me stuff right away that hits like that, then we can do a whole album. Me and Kingston just started talking about it and after that, he kept feeding me beats and it was over from there.

Podcast: Aggravated Assault (10/23/07)

Podcast

This one doesn’t really have a theme. We go over quite a few topics; do some “where are they now?” pondering, and hear the best (and only) assault story we have ever heard on the show. We take 2 requests and they do not draw from the regular fire we bring. Julie couldn’t make it so her stand-in is Alex, a friend of mine who hosts a radio show on wmbc.umbc.edu at 11pm on Friday.  Enjoy.

Playlist:
The Clipse feat. Re-Up Gang and Pharrell- What’s Up (This song starts half way in.)
Jeru Da Damaja- You Can’t Stop The Prophet
Dr. Dre feat. Kurupt and Hitman – Housewife
E-40 feat. UGK and Juelz Santana- White Gurl
Dr. Octagon- Girl Let Me Touch You
Jay-Z feat. Big Jaz and Sauce Money- Bring it On
Public Enemy- Fight the Power
Wu-Tang Clan- Wu Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin’ To Fuck Wit
Bloodhound Gang- Three Point One Four
Ghostface Killah- Big Girl

P.S. We would like to do a reader request show sometime soon. So if you have song requests E-Mail them to me at rostam@metallungies.com.
