“Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” Re-Imagined with Legos.
All these years later, the classic Wu-Tang cut continues to inspire.
When you cross hip-hop and Legos, magic tends to happen.

Nore took a page out of Cudi’s book with this one, but still sounds like good ol’ Nore. Off S.O.R.E. (Still On the Run Eating). Said Nore about the track in March,
I like Kid Cudi. It was crazy, ’cause I kind of wanted to use him for a single. And it’s crazy, he’s a fan of a lot of the old N.O.R.E. stuff. He was like, ‘I wanna do something like ‘Follow the Dollar’ and I was like ‘Damn, that shit is like two weeks old.’ He went in and I showed him a reference of what I did and he asked if he could change the beat and he changed the beat. I’m buggin’ out for my solo album.
A winning collaboration, I’d say.
Sareem Poems of Long Beach, California raps about his lady over Oddisee’s crackling, popping, soulful beat. The album, Black & Read All Over, is nothing but beautiful samples and dusty drums from top to bottom. Producers Oddisee and Theory Hazit knocked it out the park with this one.

Hip-hop to me, is not rap. Rap anyone can get on the mic…It’s the way we talk, the way we dress…Hip-hop is a feeling. People can feel if a brother is just rapping or if he’s down with hip-hop.
And just ‘cause, the video for “Fat Pockets”:
A.G. is still a dope emcee; here’s a great recent spot off Detroit producer Dabrye’s album Two/Three. A.G. spits his autobiography over a minimalist guitar loop.
Random Axe member Guilty Simpson and Madlib aka Otis Jackson are doing an album together under the name OJ Simpson. “Coroner’s Music” is the first leak off the album. I think Guilty works best in small doses, but this album has a lot of potential.
As a bonus, here’s one of my favourite Guilty tracks, off Madlib’s WLIB AM album from last year. Some stellar greasy talk over a killer horn loop.

Nothing I ever heard from Cafe before this really blew me out the water, but he sounds great over this Pete Rock banger. I’m always happy to hear newer NY cats over Pete’s treats – Pete even does adlibs like he used to do in the 90s! This is quality.

“Baby” is by far the best cut I’ve heard off Ghost’s new album Wizard of Poetry (due September 29). However, unnecessary Auto-Tune mars a perfectly good hook sung by Raheem DeVaughn.

Sphere: Related ContentLong story short, Keri Hilson stood up Mr. Chi-City. Having endured the same kind of bullshit from managers/PR people, I can sympathize with Chi-City. Not only did her people beg him for an interview and then cancel last minute, but she made him buy ten of her CDs for a giveaway and never reimbursed him. In light of Ms. Hilson’s actions, ML will hereby cease all Keri Hilson coverage until she makes amends with Mr. Chi-City. Chi-City also reveals himself to be a very talented painter and creatively tells off the dick-riders.
Check out Chi-City’s previous video after the jump.

Off Time Machine (Hood Politics VI), dropping September 22. Term’s new mixtape is a mix of old and new, “Nobody’s Smiling” being one of the new tracks. Tracklisting after the jump.
For some reason, I never like Khalil tracks the first time I hear them, but I can’t stop listening to them after a week or two. So I’m going to give Khalil the benefit of the doubt today. I’m anxious to see if the Slaughterhouse supergroup (Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9, Joe Budden) can actually deliver a quality album.
