The Hoodies are two brothers from Ellenville, NY — rent a car and drive two hours North from NYC — who went viral freestyling in their car. They make the kind of rap that induces Funkmaster Flex paroxysms (“My boys working all week like Passover”). The kicker: Young Poppa is coming for Shyheim’s neck — he dropped that Passover bar when he was 11 years old. But don’t get it twisted because they got famous on YouTube and did Ellen in 2016 — these guys are rappers in the New York mixtape circuit tradition and their new single with Statik Selektah is dope.

Listen to Ray West and AG wax rhapsodic on “Everything Is Bright” and then listen to them skip dimensions on “In The Pocket.” Few others should be allowed to make boom bap.
