Forget Bishop Don Magic Juan, meet James Lipton.

Still pimpin.

James Lipton was a pimp growing up? Now that we think about the way he does his interviews in his cool demeanor, we’re guessing he was probably a very efficient pimp. Read:

James Lipton, the host of U.S. talk show, Inside the Actors’ Studio, once worked as a pimp in Paris, France.

The revered TV presenter, who has sat down with Hollywood’s biggest names for in-depth chats about their life and work over the last 13 years, has revealed he once procured clients for French hookers.

He says, “This was when I was very very young, living in Paris, penniless, unable to get any kind of working permit… I had a friend who worked in what is called the Milieu, which is that world and she suggested to me one night, `Look, you’ll be my mec… We would translate it perhaps… as pimp.

“We were earning our living together, this young woman and I, we made a rather good living, I must say.”

Lipton reveals in his new book Inside Inside he would set up sex shows for clients of his lady friend.

He adds, “I had to accompany my clientelle to the Rue Pigalle, which is where these things occurred. And then I’d take them up to the room and I had to remain there because they were very nervous, they were young Americans for the most part… and they didn’t speak French.”

Freeway Ft. Rick Ross-Criminal Opera, Produced by Cool & Dre.

While we were recovering from 5 days of partying up in NYC, Eskay has hit you up with Paper Gangsters & Step Back Ft. Lil Wayne.

Now we hit you up with Criminal Opera. We kinda like the song, we don’t like Dre on the hook though.

It’s off of Freeway’s not so early arriving Free At Last (Maybe having it delayed so much was  to play along with the name of the album?). It’s in stores November 20. Hopefully the sick ?uestlove/Scott Storch produced Where You’ve Been makes the album.

Edit: Per request MP3: Freeway-Where You’ve Been.

Honda Battle of the Bands ‘Stompin at the Dome’ DVD (Review).

Told you this was coming. Hopefully you got your emails out to but you still have time (considering there is no time limit…)

The legacy of HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) is a very rich and diverse one. Every institution came up under different circumstances but the results are remarkably similar. They took what was already established by society as the norm and made it there own. From the way administration was set up all the way to the halftime festivities. This DVD is a celebration of that legacy. I went to TSU, which is regarded as a traditionally HBCU (until recently when they joined the Board of Regents, thus becoming a state funded school but that’s another story). So this DVD meant a lot to me personally. This ain’t like UT or Michigan where the football team is the story season in and season out. At TSU and other HBCU’s the story is the band and halftime. It’s a bonus to have a good football team, but it’s imperative to have a great band. The best halftime show between rivals is the bragging rights. You could walk around the stadium during the first 2 quarters but you’d better have a seat have the half, and some folks actually leave after that. That’s just how it is. Been like that since high school and in college it just went to another level. Read the rest of this entry »

Donny Goines- The Renaissance

Just recently, I got an e-mail from Donny Goines, a rapper out in Harlem. Dude did not just send me a track, or a video. He sent me his whole damn album. I loved it. His rhymes are hard and his production is insane. My favorite track was The Renaissance. I liked it because he basically took everything I feel about rap music and put it into words on a track with a beat that is truly bananas.

I Won’t Love You To Death: The Story of Mario & His Mom.

We like Mario, in fact he is probably ML’s favorite R&B male singer over Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, etc. (those songs with Jadakiss don’t hurt!).  To our surprise life isn’t all gravy for Mario, MTV has a documentary airing this Sunday, October 21st  at 10pm about his struggles dealing with his mom’s addiction to heroin. Now that’s some real shit that a lot of people in the limelight wouldn’t talk about, so props to him for sharing his story, hopefully his mom stays clean.
