VH1 had a party at a swanky Times Square club called Opera for a screening of its Hip-Hop Honors show. ML was in the building taking advantage of the free pasta, mini-burgers and crabcakes (don’t worry mom, Knobbz kept it kosher). We watched the show live on a screen. The setup was less than ideal for viewing, but I was able to catch Jim Jones doing a verse of “We Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That.” As far as I could tell, there wasn’t a repeat of Fiascogate. Honorees included Cypress Hill, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, Too $hort, De La Soul and Isaac Hayes. And performers? They didn’t do any of their own songs, but damn. I didn’t stay late enough to see anyone famous at the after-party, but the music was so loud that I wouldn’t have even been able to tell Ghostface that it was a travesty that his scene was cut from Iron Man.
Hip-Hop Honors premieres Monday October 6th at 10/9c on VH1.
