First Ever Saudi Rap Album Released, Pisses People Off.

Saudi Arabia recently saw the release of its first ever rap album by Saudi singer Clash, but apparently, some aren’t very happy about it:

Ali Al-Omari, the director of an online forum for youth, stated that it is an expression of educational and social failure and that Western music provides fertile ground for the development of cynicism and nihilism.

Speaking of “social failure,” I heard that a Saudi court sentenced a 75-year-old woman to 40 lashes earlier this week because she was in the same room as two men. Also, a woman in Saudi Arabia was arrested last week for driving. Also, Saudi Arabia didn’t abolish slavery until 1962. The list goes on.

I have no doubt that even the filthiest western music has already made its way into Saudi Arabia by way of bootlegs and the Internet. All media legally sold in the country must be government approved and you can bet Saudis don’t tolerate that shit.

Islamic fundamentalists the world over need to learn that you can censor and sanction media all you want, but the people are going to get their music, movies and games somehow. They also need to realize that this is better than this.

ML has gotten 6 (!) visits from Saudi Arabia this month.
