Pusha T – Raid (ft. 50 Cent) (produced by The Neptunes).

Pusha T said of his solo work, “You’re probably going to get a little bit of me articulating really introspective things and getting the full spectrum of me.”

Not on “Raid.” This is just a Clipse song missing a verse from Malice. It has lighthearted drug raps and a Pharrell hook. There was much more reflection on Til The Casket Drops, where Pusha and Malice picked apart the morality of selling drugs and rapping about selling drugs.

Not that there’s anything wrong with classic Pusha. The appeal of the Clipse was always that they were great rappers who brought out the best in the Neptunes. The occasional introspection on Lord Willin’ and Hell Hath no Fury and full blown soul-searching on Casket was an added bonus. But if Pusha isn’t going to use the spotlight and his Kanye deal to break new ground, he might as well have Malice on the track instead of pre-Vitamin Water 50 Cent, who makes a surprise appearance. 50 probably thought Fear of God was another straight to DVD movie.

The mixtape drops March 21. According to HipHopDX, it’s mostly freestyles with a few original tracks like this.

Pusha also said, “When we’re together [Malice and I], there’s been plenty of days where we’ll come do an interview and I’m just not into it.” Oh.
