Zaytoven and his protege Cassius Jay don’t feign any kind of rapping ability. There’s a line on here where Cassius says “Swag swag turnt up coupe de ville,” which I think would be enough to make KRS-One march on Washington. Rather, “Win” is about self-assurance. There’s no bluster or raised voices save for the DJ drop. The track is smooth and confident enough that the two producers can grab the mic and spit elementary brag raps without any apologies.
Risking heresy, I’d compare Zaytoven and Cassius Jay’s mumbled Auto-Tune nonsense to Afrika Bambaataa screaming party raps over a DJ Premier beat. If it sounds good and feels good, it is good.
