Nothing too great in my opinion, I still think Rothbury looks better as a whole. Public Enemy and Pretty Lights are the only musicians that really stand out to me. The comedy tent was a lot of fun last year so I could see my self spending some time in there for Triumph, Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. Either way, I’m sure it will still be a great time, and I’ll keep ya posted on any new additions.
It’s getting to be that time of year again when the big summer festivals are all starting to drop their lineups, and with the stellar lineup that Bonnaroo recently dropped, Rothbury stepped up to the plate, delivering a variety and big name and up-and-coming acts. Here’s the official lineup so far according to www.rothburyfestival.com:
THE DEAD • BOB DYLAN AND HIS BAND • THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT • WILLIE NELSON & FAMILY • THE BLACK CROWES • DAMIAN ‘JR. GONG’ MARLEY & NAS • STS9 • G. After hearing rave reviews of the festie’s debut last year, I’m definitely hoping to attend. I’m a big electronic fan so seeing The Disco Biscuits, 2020 Soundsystem, STS9, Lipp Service, MSTRKRFT, Future Rock, Shpongle, Chromeo, and Glitch Mob all at the same festival mixed with The Dead, Dylan, Damian Marley and Nas, Kid Cudi, Claypool… you gotta be fuggin kiddin me!!! Much respek Rothbury!
I can’t believe I missed this. On February 27th, Revive Da Live put on a show dubbed Hip Hop 1942 at Le Poisson Rouge, which is part of a series of concerts aimed at melding jazz and hip-hop. Phonte showed up and joined John Robinson and Raydar Ellis for a Dilla medley backed by a live band. They performed “The Official” and “Fall In Love” as well as the original sample for both, “Diana In The Autumn Wind.” The crowd goes wild when Phonte drops this bracelet:
Smack the fuck out they mouth, Chris Brown y’all niggas
The audio in the video is hardly satisfactory, but you can download a much cleaner recording here.
As a bonus, All The Way Live also dropped this amazing gem last week: CL Smooth performing “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” with a live band in Berlin in 2007. Both audio and video after the jump.
If you are looking for a dope electronic show to check out tonight and you happen to be in NYC, check out Calvin Harris with DC locals Nadastorm at Webster Hall. I’ve never heard of Calvin Harris before but since he was playing with Nadastorm, I checked out his myspace. I ended up listening to all the tracks on his page. If you dig Chromeo, Justice type stuff check this guy out tonight.
So, if you haven’t heard about Phish’s comeback tour after breaking up in 2004, then you must be living under a rock. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get tickets to their three night opening run at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia, but the band was kind enough to release free soundboards from each night that were quickly put on Livephish.com the next day. After listening to each show I can ecstatically say the boys are back and playing with a vengeance. Opening with “Fluffhead,” a fan-favorite that hasn’t been played since 2000, they set the tone for the next three nights. After witnessing the trainwreck that was Coventry, their “final” show/festival and my one and only time seeing them, hearing the band (especially guitarist Trey Anastasio, who dealt with drug addiction and was practically nodding off while playing at Coventry) absolutely nail complex compositions such as the aforementioned “Fluffhead” and “You Enjoy Myself,” and looking like they were having the time of their lives while doing it, has put a smile on a face that won’t be leaving for a while. Here’s a phan’s video of the opener that gives me chills every time i watch it:
Can’t wait to catch these guys at Bonnaroo and hook it up with another review!!!
L. Boogie shuts down London with the assistance of a live band circa February 14th, 1999. Lauryn remains among my all-time favorite female rappers and undoubtedly the crown jewel on The Fugees’ classic album, The Score. Also, I included the original for you smart dumb cats*.
I know this is old news, but the Bonnaroo lineup dropped a couple days ago and I thought I should post it considering my first input on this site was my review for last year’s festival. Looks pretty tight so far. Very eclectic mix with Springsteen, Phish, Beastie Boys, NIN and David Byrne as headliners, not to mention the mix of other great acts from different genres such as Snoop, Elvis Costello, Al Green, and MGMT. Hopefully I’ll be there to hook it up with another review this year.
As promised here is more Chester French for your mind. This was lingering around in the drafts for like 2 weeks, so apologizes for the tardiness. ML got to check out D.A. & Max aka Chester French do a quick acoustic set in one of DC’s dopest boutiques, For The Greater Good about 2 weeks back. After we saw the planning go down on twitter right in front of our eyes, so we had to check this out (as D.A. said it was a historic moment, performances brokered on twitter!). Interestingly enough CF opened up with their biggest song/single She Loves Everybody, mostly due to audience request. As soon as the song started ML was pretty much sold on CF’s live act. D.A. has a very unique, yet powerful voice that was ringing out clearly through out the store sans any mic, while Max played the catchy melodies on the guitar. We look forward to hearing and checking out more stuff form the duo. Their debut Love The Future drops on March 31st.
To get your own samplings of Chester French check the links & the tour dates below.
(Head over to RCRDLBL to grab 2 great remixes by The Neptunes & Steve Aoki. Also, word on the street is the video for the song is going to be released tomorrow.)
You can catch Chester French on tour with Lady Gaga starting in March, the dates along with one bonus photo of our after the jump.
If you need a refresher on Izza Kizza, go relisten to his dope mixtape from last year. Otherwise, all you bail bondsman can find ML in the building on 2.4.09.
A slim lineup compared to last year’s which included Rakim, GZA, Buckshot and Kidz in the Hall. The only act on there I really want to see is Blu & Exile. I had fun at Paid Dues last year, but I think I’m going to stay home and play video games this time around. Tickets will be available January 31.
