Over the past two weeks I have spent an increasing amount of time in the magical land of Baltimore. The first of my recent outings occurred when I went to some loud hookah bar with a couple of old friends. Besides the waitress being mentally disabled this was a fairly uneventful night. The real shit popped off at Virgin Fest.
I would have to say one of the stand-out performances of the entire festival was RJD2. We arrived early to see him and it was more than worth it. Watching this dude mix 20+ minute dance songs using constantly changing records, and without headphones, was like watching a miracle. I highly recommend anyone who ever has the chance to see him should run to get tickets.
Before the Festival I never had previously seen a major rock band live. But by the time the Raconteurs came on I had already had at least one person fall on me as a result of crowd surfing. While I am not a huge fan of modern rock I would have to say that the Raconteurs put on a great show. My favorite part was when they did their rendition of Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” with Jack White using a specially tuned mic that was placed so while he sang his back was to the crowd.
When Gnarls Barkley came on the crowd seemed subdued for just about every song besides Crazy. But Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse definitely put down an incredible show dressed as Romans for this venue. They put a lot of time into Jokes and story telling too. I wonder if I was the only one yelling for Khujo and Gipp in the crowd?
I have nothing to say about the Who. They were everything I expected and more. They laid shit down. Classic to Classic. Laid Down. Cop that DVD. Life changing.
When the Chilli Peppers came on I had already been hit by a total of 9 people crowd surfing. During their show I was hit by about 10 more. Fucking bananas. I have never seen a performer get so energetic. They ran shit. They played through all the classics and then when they left people were stomping and chanting so loud that they came out and did damn near a whole other show as an encore.
But that wasn’t the end of B-more fun. Last night I went to a another better hookah bar with a friend and after watching Belly Dancing, eating some good food, and smokin’ some great tabaccy we let to see that my car had been towed. Now don’t get it twisted, I fly high, but I just didn’t have that amount needed to free my vehicle (89 Maxima BALLIN!!) in cash on me at the time. So we took a cab back to UMBC and I got that money and left to get my car the next day. Suprisingly, I was so happy with the the whole experience that I wasn’t at all angry about my car getting towed.
But my god do I need sleep.
Maybe a shower first……..

When you are rocking Wallabees you don’t need much else.
Last night, hangover and I hit up the Boost Mobile Rockcorps show over at the 9:30 club. The only way to get in this show was to do volunteer work at the Latin American Montessori Bilingual School the day before. When we got there the balcony section was closed off and for a good reason. About 80 people tops were in attendance (9:30 usually sells out with a 1000+) which was sort of a double edged sword (more ‘private show’ but a pretty lackluster crowd). After WPGC’s DJ Quicksilver (who spun 95% south records from Young Joc to D4L :X) complained about being set up and hung out to dry, because from what I understood the acts took too long to come out, but I didn’t really mind because shit like that always happens at hip-hop shows. First came out Tru-Life shining with his ROC chain (who else wears roc chains? I know Hov really dosen’t) and did a quick gritty set, with about 3-4 songs and some acapella joints dissing Dip-Set with highlights calling Jimmy Jones, “Jenny Jones”, no one knew any of his material so he kind of left the stage in a hurry, it was as dead as I’ve ever seen a crowd. Also he had a woman DJ, anyone know who she is? Then came out Rickyyy RAWWWWSSSSSSS, he did his thing, he had the largest (in weight and numbers) posse of the night, some real mean grillin dudes who probably dont smile. ever. His set was average but it was evident that most of the crowd cared/knew only him on the bill. After he did his 30 minute or so set, he left and so did about 80% of the crowd (I wonder what role the DC youngn 10PM curfew had to do with that). But we were there to see the man that provides the namesake of this fucking website, without a rapper like him still around we’d probably be laffytaffy.com (disgusting thought). After about a 45 minute delay due to some traffic Ghost was stuck in, the man still didn’t fake on us. When he arrived from backstage yelling in his signature smooth yet high pitch “All 10 of y’all up to the front!!”, everyone who was left (somewhere around 20-30 people), followed god’s directions. And boy he didn’t dissapoint, he could’ve pulled some shit and did a few quick songs and dipped but he didn’t, he delivered about a 50 minute long set including Be This Way, Run, Metal Lungies, Crack Spot, Dogs of War, Shimmy Shimmy Ya (ODB tribute), Triumph, Back Like That and some others. Not once did he mention that Fishscale was in store as many rappers tend to do dozens of time during their performances. At the end Trife was jokes shouting out to Boost Mobile asking for some free phones and $20 phone cards. After he wrapped up Ghost was the nicest dudes I’ve seen after show chillin with the fans and talking, it was surreal. Even his manager Mike Caruso was mad nice taking a picture of us with Ghost (on Stage!), I’ve seen too many managers in that position that would tell you to get lost. Seeing Ghost with such a small crowd was surreal, I think this is def. one of my highlight of maybe the decade.
Check out the whole photo album here. Those pics are compressed and don’t look as hot as the full high res ones do, if you’d like some of those shout me a holler.
I also got some videos, audio sucks cause it was so loud but I’m going to youtube/google video tomorrow.

What up everyone, Back on May 15th I was fortunate to see the Clipse and Dogg Pound open up for Ice Cube, now after fixing my shitty internet, I was finally able to upload the concert video to share.
First off, no doubt the Clipse are one of my favorite acts in the game right now, their time on the stage was maybe 20 minutes or so but every single minute was hot, I would pay a lot to see a full set of theirs, see here as they do their classic track, Grindin’:
Then here is the intro for Ice Cube entering the stage…
Before this following clip I wasn’t sure if Ice Cube was still hungry to be a rapper, and should stick to doing movies, boy was I wrong, the energy he showed on that night was some of the best I’ve ever seen from any rap acts live, Also it should be noted that he chose to do a lot of his classic shit over cuts off his new album. As he left the stage he said he’d be back this summer with Snoop, if it is back at 9:30 I am so there. Note: The guy yelling in the background was a dude next to me, trashed out of his mind, he yelled the WHOLE night, even got the attention of WC during an interlude, it was hillarious.
Here is some bonus Clipse footage from someone else that went to the same show:
also here is the new video for The Clipse-Mr Me Too, very sleek + minimal, Re-Up!
out.
