More freshness from ML-Hollers-@ subject Co$$. Where does dude finds these amazing producers? While I typically Co$$ him most entertaining on a the shit-talk tip, he does reflection just as well. Really hearing a strong Ras Kass influence on this one – mean that in the best possible way. Sit down and listen to this.
A dope flip of Ahmad Jamal’s “I Love Music” (Nas – “The World Is Yours”, Jeru Tha Damaja – “Me Or The Papes”, etc) complements nice verses from ST 2 Lettaz and Young Clova and fellow Alabaman Yelawolf. That last verse is nasty.
Today, the Neptunes don’t wield the same power over the radio that they once did, but this has club banger written all over it. I can see the dancing drunk chicks now.
Here’s the new single from Chicago rapper Neak off his elaborately named upcoming project 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco). Neak’s rhymes/flow are decent, but this song’s beat and the Busta Rhymes sample on the hook really grabbed me.
For a little context, Javelin are a Brooklyn based hip-hop instrumental group that makes incredible summery jams out of samples and keyboards. Their self-released album Jamz & Jemz is one of the best things I’ve heard all year. This video captures Ohio rapper Stalley and ML-fave Curren$y rocking over the Javelin track “Susie Cues”.
Hip-hop and indie rock are intersectingin interesting, more creative ways than the days of the Judgment Night soundtrack.
I wasn’t expecting much from Obie Trice’s post-Shady Records opus, but Special Reserve is his best work yet. MoSS’ production suits him very well, random as their collaboration is. Ex-major label rappers usually fizzle, but it sounds like Obie found a comfortable niche.
Here’s the second leak from The Demo (get the first here). Terrace Martin continues to raise the bar. Crazy dope how he backs up the vocals with a backup singer.
