Foreign Beggars – Prove It (ft. Guilty Simpson) x Contact (ft. Noisia).

No independent/underground hip-hop release is complete without a verse from Guilty Simpson. UK rap group Foreign Beggars have a long history, but this is the first I’ve heard of them. My knowledge of British hip-hop begins and ends with The P Brothers.

These bangers are off their upcoming album United Colours of Beggatron.

Sha Stimuli – Move Back (ft.Freeway) (prod. Just Blaze)

An instant vintage Roc-A-Fella banger, complete with Just Blaze production and a Freeway verse. Freezer + Just Blaze = goodness. This track was labeled as having a Young Chris verse, but he only pops up to shout two bars at the end.

Fashawn – Life As a Shorty (ft. J. Mitchell), Video.

How many rappers have the balls to make a video that looks like it could play on Nickelodeon? Positive, uplifting, inspirational. Props, Fashawn.

And I finally got around to listening to Fash’s mixtape with Alcehmist, which isn’t as bright and sunny, but also totally tits.

Ghostface Buried a KFC Bucket in Brett Ratner’s Backyard.

Complex talked to Rush Hour/X-Men 3 director Brett Ratner about his history directing hip-hop videos. Notably, Ratner directed the million dollar video for the Wu-Tang Clan’s “Triumph” and it sounds like it was a life-changing experience.

So three days into the edit, I get a call that Ghost had had been kicked out of like eleven hotels, and I’m like, ‘Why were you kicked out?’ He’s like, ‘I don’t know man, I got fucked up, and I just start breaking shit. Can you come get me? I got no place to stay.’ So I let him stay at my house. Suddenly my phone rings, and it’s Steve Rifkind, ‘Whats going on?’ I go, ‘Nothing, I’m just bringing Ghost over my house ’cause he got kicked out of the hotel.’ Then there’s silence on the other end of the phone. I say, ‘Whats wrong?’ He goes, ‘I gotta call you back.’ Five days later, he calls me up and goes, ‘Are you okay? Oh my God, you scared the shit outta me, man. How can you let this guy stay at your house? I don’t even let these guys know where I live!’ I go, ‘What do you mean? He’s the nicest guy in the world.’ He goes, ‘You don’t know what Ghostface has? He hallucinates, he hears voices like kill your mom, kill your mom. He has to be medicated because he has homicidal thoughts.’ So a month goes by, and I would edit all day, and Ghost would just chill at my house until we finished. A month later, I’m with my girlfriend in the backyard, and the cat starts going fucking crazy and starts digging into the dirt. We dig up a bucket of fried chicken. Ghost buried a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken in the backyard. How fuckin’ freaky is that?

Ratner also talks about the guys doing mushrooms and stealing clothes from the shoot.

I’m waiting for the documentary/biopic that can do Wu-Tang justice. Brett Ratner need not apply.

Strong Arm Steady – Trunk Music (ft. The Game) (produced by Mars).

Looks like Strong Arm Steady (Phil Da Agony, Mitchy Slick, and Krondon) is about to unleash a lot of good music.

First, the crew is releasing Stoney Jackson, a collab album with Madlib. According to Stones Throw, the project will feature Talib Kweli, Guilty Simpson, Phonte, Planet Asia and lots of LA underground rappers.

However the Game-assisted banger that is “Trunk Music” comes from their upcoming album Arms and Hammers.  Produced by Mars, “Trunk Music” rides a monstrous bass and a haunting xylophone loop. Arms and Hammers will follow Stoney Jackson.

Camp Lo – Son Of A…, Video.

New Camp Lo! It’s fantastic to see rappers actively work with producers who bring out the best in them, and Ski & Lowa is magic. Another Heist is the album, produced entirely by Ski out October 20th. Ski started as a rapper in Bizzie Boyz and Original Flavor, but it’s still a little surprising to hear him behind the mic.

Royce Da 5’9” – New Money (produced by Streetrunner).

Incredible beat, hook and verses.

There are conflicting reports as to who produced this track. Xclusives Zone says it was DJ Premier and Nah Right says Streetrunner. And it doesn’t help that this song isn’t on the track list for Street Hop.

Regardless, calling this track high-energy is an understatement. “New Money”strikes a rare chord; every line is overflowing with great rhymes at breakneck speeds and the beat feels like it’s constantly escalating.

The tagged up version of “Hood Love” that leaked in August was amazing as well, though it’s missing a verse from Joell Ortiz.
