I’m one of those people who usually won’t touch R&B or soul unless it’s thirty years old, but Marsha Ambrosius’ new mixtape might be worth checking out. She signed to Aftermath in 2005 and has since appeared on songs with The Game (“Start from Scratch” and “Why You Hate The Game”), Busta Rhymes (“Get You Some” and “Cocaina”) and Hi-Tek (“Music for Life”). Her new mixtape, Yours Truly, is produced entirely by Aftermath staff producer Focus… This track off the mixtape really has that Aftermath sound. The other two ain’t bad either.
Wale is getting on that Phish tip, getting his full concert recordings on the internets. Annnnd did I just hear a Nirvana cover on W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. ? *rewinds*
Off the upcoming Biggie Smalls: Rap Phenomenon DVD coming out January 27th, right after the biopic. D-Dot remembers Biggie calling him to his side and singing him the hook for “Hypnotize” for the first time.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Biggie biopic, but I feel like it will focus on drama and omit classic moments like this.
ML friend Berk hit me up to let me know about a series of tour podcast diaries Zune is doing with Murs & Kidz In The Hall (the recent ML Hollers @ subjects). To view all of the episodes you need to sign up at Zune (here for Murs & here for Kidz). The professional quality production is nice, no camera phones clips here.
Yeah, that’s right. I posted a song called “Super Boo.” I know I’m a couple of days late with this, but this track is too dope-flavored to pass over. See also: Jim Jones Goes Backpack.
I just got this in the e-mail. I love Afro Samurai, and that first soundtrack was my shit. This looks to be just as good. If you haven’t seen the show its on Spike TV, it was a miniseries, so it only ran for 5 episodes but it was the best shit ever!!! The next season is called Afro Samurai: Resurrection and I am psyched as hell for it.
