In anticipation of the release of his debut album, Co$$ released Sleepwalking, a mixtape of completely original material. So he basically dropped an extra album’s worth of material. What a guy. Watch the video for his single “Spaceman” below and check back for our interview with Co$$. Before I Awoke drops June 21.
Let’s see if Wale ever makes music like this again. If he tried to make this song today, it would need a J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League beat and at least one verse from Meek Mill.
I’m Meg (although from here on out I’ll be going by Meaghatron) and I’m the new kid here at ML so be gentle with me. I’m from Chicago which you’ll see seems to have a lot of influence in what I gravitate towards. I have an affinity for what you may loosely refer to as indie music, as well as electronica, but the real way to my heart is through remixes, there’s nothing better than a perfectly crafted remix. My friends have all gotten sick of me starting sentences with “Have you heard of…” so I figured I needed to move on to a larger audience, hence my arrival to the world wide web.
You’ll see me posting from a wide range of topics from music (obviously), to sick artists you should look out for, to fashion (because we all wanna look good right?). It’s an honor to be thrown in with the talented writers that reside on this site and I can’t wait to be a part of it :] You can see a little more of what I’m about with my last.fm.
Well, I’ll leave you with this for today (probably NSFW):
Rockstar Games never skimps on a soundtrack and L.A. Noire is no exception. The game features the music of Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Thelonious Monk — a suitable backdrop for a detective thriller set in 1947 Los Angeles. In addition, Rockstar partnered with Verve Records for L.A. Noire: Remixed, an EP of remixes of jazz standards by the likes of Dave Sitek and DJ Premier. Premo turned Louis Jordan’s “Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens” into an undeniable head-nodder. Rockstar sure knows how to please hip-hop heads.
L.A. Noire is out now. Watch the launch trailer below and listen to the rest of L.A. Noire: Remixedhere
Ron Artest, you’ve done it again. First it was Champions, on which Dr. Dre reportedly worked with him at one point telling him his verse was stupid. Now comes a new video for the single Go Loco. I find it interesting that Ron Ron would put out a song about going crazy, since well… Remember when he thanked his shrink after the Lakers won the title last year?
But what really makes this song is the guests. Fat Joe? Sure. B Real from Cypress Hill? Ok, a little old school, but nothing too bizarre. George Lopez? Que? The song premiered on the show back in March. It’s a memorable performance, only for its absurdity. Lopez has a very dubious wardrobe choice, sporting a shirt that reads, “I didn’t ask to B A Mexican, I just got lucky,” as well as a bandana, black shades, and matching black top hat. Artest has on a nice shirt as well. It simply reads “Peanut Butter.” Lucky for us the mic isn’t really working. Quality in the video is better. Check it, if you have the cajones.
Adrien Brody was at the Academy of American Poets at the Lincoln Center in New York last month. The actor must be diligently at work towards achieving a coveted Hood Pass because he decided to recite The Ten Crack Commandments. I tried really hard to listen but his flaring nostrils were a huge distraction. Anyway, it’s not like I need a reminder on what the commandments are, as I have them tat’d on the belly. On a fun personal note: I am currently messing up like 4 of the commandments in my daily life. #losing.
As much filler as there is on Doggumentary, Snoop Dogg deserves some credit for getting this Southern California gangster jam from Battlecat. A gangster low budget video with a two minute introduction ensues.
I’ve been watching a good amount of Coachella performances on the 5 Gum Youtube stream this weekend, as you may have read on twitter. On Friday, when I scanned the stream schedule, I was kind of bummed to see Mr. Kanye West missing (esp. after missing him at SXSW). When I glanced at the schedule a few minutes ago, there is a TBA listed at a 10:30 PM PST slot (time Kanye is scheduled to play) on Channel 1 (which has broadcasted all of the main stage performances). So maybe in a last minute scramble 5 gum laced Kanye and the GOOD Music crew with crates on top of crates of their fine gum (and cut an enormous check) to let his performance grace the internets.
Just pray TBA means Kanye and not some encore…which would be a cruel joke. I’ll update this post if I hear anything more.
EDIT: IT IS CONFIRMED: THE SCHEDULE NOW SAYS KANYE.
While watching the ongoing Coachella stream this weekend I came across a dope promo video for the festival that feature Hip Hop head & Funkateer Dave 1 (1/2 of Chromeo), and Creative legend Eric Haze (I pray own an album with his art work). They both share candid reflections on their careers, especially worth hearing is Dave1 talk hip-hop, which a lot of people seem to overlook.
You can catch Dave 1 jam out when Chromeo performs later today on the official Coachella stream on youtube (8:35pm PST/11:35EST), If you haven’t seen them live I implore you to check it out.
