Wale – The Break Up Song, Video.

Wale on his Boy Meets World swag. When ML brought Wale to his first Washington Capitals game, he got really excited when we asked him about his favorite Saved by the Bell episode. Watch the video for “The MC” below for some more traditional rap video imagergy. Both off More About Nothing.

Nas & Damian Marley – Patience, Video.

The green screen helps Nas and Damian Marley realize the African/celestial imagery that was lurking in “Patience.”

Ben Westbeech – Falling, Video.

Ben Westbeech is a welcome digression from the current dance pop infestation. “Falling” is meant for the club, but it comes free of vocal effects, bubblegum synths, and Dr. Luke. Ben’s album There’s More To Life Than This comes out later this year.

Homeboy Sandman – Fully Equipped.

Homeboy Sandman rapping with a live band is a beautiful thing. The Live at the Clubhouse Vol. 1 EP will also feature Blu and Freddie Gibbs. Scoob Vercetti – Fly Errday (ft. Jackie Chain).

You can pause at any point in this video and you’ll get an image that doesn’t belong in a rap video. One scene has Jackie Chain and his crew of Korean fratboys at a karaoke parlor while another has Scoob Vercetti checking out his face piercings in the mirror. But the duo pull it off, demonstrating that rap artists transcend racial distinctions when united in pursuit of flyness.

Reks – 25th Hour, Video.

Reks trimmed his beard, picked out his best fitted hat, and went to Coney Island to shoot the video for his DJ Premier-produced single. And, yup, it’s incredible. The album is called R.E.K.S (Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme) and it has beats from Pete Rock, Hi Tek, Alchemist, Sean C & LV, and Fizzy Womack.

Ghostface Killah – 2getha Baby, Video.

At least Def Jam’s bungled promotion of Ghost’s Apollo Kids album gave us a dope video for the single. Between this and the Sheek vid, the rap label of yore seems to know who to call to make a standard, but fun rap video.

Mistah FAB – Boom Bap, Video.

I usually associate Mistah FAB with shit you turn off after 30 seconds, but wow, this is dope. Even though it’s a generic concept (bringing boom bap back) with an even more generic title (“Boom Bap”), this is just potent hip-hop. B-boys and graffiti. No surprises, aside from the fact that this is coming from Mistah FAB, no complaints.

Also, I love that his producer is white and nerdy enough to write for Metal Lungies.

Bilal – Levels, Video + KenBts. Remix.

On the voodoo space hippie side of things, track five from Bilal’s Airtight’s Revenge gets the video treatment. And not just any treatment — Flying Lotus makes his directorial debut, lacing “Levels” with suitably crazy visuals. Shafiq Husayn’s beat is so powerful that it’s no problem at all that Bilal doesn’t come in until two minutes into the song. And when he does, it’s with a melancholy croon that breaks your heart.

The “Levels” EP is out today and it includes a FlyLo edit and remxies from KenBts. and Sonnymoon. Grab the KenBts. remix below.
