We like Mario, in fact he is probably ML’s favorite R&B male singer over Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, etc. (those songs with Jadakiss don’t hurt!). To our surprise life isn’t all gravy for Mario, MTV has a documentary airing this Sunday, October 21st at 10pm about his struggles dealing with his mom’s addiction to heroin. Now that’s some real shit that a lot of people in the limelight wouldn’t talk about, so props to him for sharing his story, hopefully his mom stays clean.
New Jay-Z video. I like it. Simple, crisp and straightforward. Except the “YES” signs throughout. I guess that’ll be explained at a later date. Glad Jay is back. I’m looking forward to American Gangster the movie and the album. Now if Nas does a quick reshuffling of his greatest hits album, then I’ll be excited about that project, too. It doesn’t even has “Nas is Like” on it. Anyhow, nice video Jay.

Things of note: R. Kelly doesn’t take off the Gucci plastic tag on his sunglasses. He also didn’t have time to sing for someone to come and braid his hair before he started filming. We love the bowl of apples near the drum machine near the end with the fakest looking trying-to-focus the camera during some intense shit filming ever. Wait, what’s the point of this again?
This video wins one award, best supporting actor….to the panasonic cordless phone.
P.S. The final installment of our much-belated Trapped in the Closet reviews THIS WEEKEND, tell your grandparents.
This video has been blowing up the internets. Personally, I’ve watched it a few times, and when I hear the original in the club (more like in the car on the radio) I try to think of Travis’ version. I guess this what some kickass drum work and 4 2 drumsticks do to another forgettable gimmicky song. Don’t bet against this being the only time you see any Soulja Boy work mentioned on here, sorry Soulja Boy (?) fans.
With his new song Blue Magic. Like ya’ll didn’t see this one coming. I, for one, am glad he’s back. Some people liked Kingdom Come and it wasn’t a bad album, but it wasn’t a Jay album. It’s just certain emcees you expect a certain level of excellence from. Jay is one of them. Huey, Boosie, Hurricane Chris? Not so much….. I like the track. It’ll take a couple of listens and some movie preview clips to get used to it.
Yeah, we kinda liked the track a lil while ago, so we had to share this. I’m always geeked to see footage of producers working with each other. Looks like Danja really is Timbo’s right hand man.
