SNL Digital Short: I’m On A Boat (Featuring T-Pain), Video.

More Andy Samberg (and T-Pain related laughs) for your mind. 2 Things about this 1) Are Digital Shorts the only consistently redeemable thing on the show? 2) I wonder how much T-Pain got paid for this?

"I love you like my wingspan".

A brilliant parody of “Ice Cream” by the Lonely Island. Andy Samberg’s Cappadonna imitation is on point.

And just ’cause, the video for “Ice Cream”:

Jabari’s roundtable with 9th Wonder, Young Guru, Young Chris & Neef, Pt. 3.

Another part of this interesting sitdown. Young Guru has an interesting point at the end, saying the labels need to develop the best protected format on the internet? With Apple recently going pretty much DRM free, I highly doubt that is the answer. Quality of the format (for the general public) isn’t either.. people are listening to music on youtube!!

ML @ New York Comic Con 2009: Itinerary.

At Metal Lungies, we eat, sleep and poop hip-hop. But sometimes, we get tired of the violence, drugs and stupidity. When that happens, we listen to Kid Cudi, Kanye West and other more lighthearted musical fare. But then we eventually get tired of the inane lyrics, ephemeral dance tracks and stupidity. And when that happens, we find other stuff to do, like attending New York Comic Con this weekend!

Here is my itinerary for Friday and Saturday. I have very little planned for Sunday, so I’ll probably just browse the booths for free stuff something cool. And feel free to recommend anything from the this list.

Friday

2:00 – Electronic Arts

3:30 – Atari

5:30Futurama: Into The Wild Green Yonder, screening

7:00 – Prototype: The Video Game, presentation

Saturday

11:00 – Watchmen, Terminator Salvation, and Friday the 13th (Warner), panel

12:30 – Gabe and Tycho Spotlight, panel

1:00 – Star Wars Decade: Where Were You in ’99? panel

2:30 – Disney Presents Up and Surrogates, panel

3:30 – SouthPeak

5:30 – Up Preview Screening

Sunday

1:30 – Watchmen: Portrait of A Movie, panel

Other

Sega probably has the strongest showing in terms of games, so I’m definitely checking them out. And THQ might have something cool too.

As you can see, there’s very little that’s hip-hop related, but I think we can all use a break. And if it makes you feel better, someone told me the next Beat Drop is coming real soon.

Bonnaroo 2009 Initial Lineup Dropped.

I know this is old news, but the Bonnaroo lineup dropped a couple days ago and I thought I should post it considering my first input on this site was my review for last year’s festival. Looks pretty tight so far. Very eclectic mix with Springsteen, Phish, Beastie Boys, NIN and David Byrne as headliners, not to mention the mix of other great acts from different genres such as Snoop, Elvis Costello, Al Green, and MGMT. Hopefully I’ll be there to hook it up with another review this year.

Stay tuned for lineup updates in the near future.

"Madlib is dropping the bomb that make me smile." – Busy P (Ed Banger) and PB Wolf (Stones Throw) interviewed.

Via Stones Throw

Here’s a great interview with the heads of two great record labels, Pedro Winter (aka Busy P) of Ed Banger and Chris Manak, aka Peanut Butter Wolf of Stones Throw. There’s some interesting back story behind both labels and Busy P’s answers are all in charmingly broken English  (the title of this post being the best example).

Particularly interesting: Pedro explains how Slum Village ended up remixing Daft Punk’s “Aerodynamic”.

Pedro, how did the Daft Punk remix by Slum Village/Jay Dee occur?
Pedro: You all probably know the classic “Raise it up” from Slum Village. This beat was insane at the time. Jay Dee as usual came up with an avant-garde beat. I did not notice the sample at first sight, but a friend of us was there and say, “Hey hey hold on, isn’t it a Daft sound?” And fuck yes! It was in fact a sample from Thomas Bangalter’s solo project for his label Roulé.
Instead of loosing our time and react as ass holes and ask for money or shit, I propose to the Daft boys to take care of it and ask a remix in exchange of the use of that sample. I met Dilla in Miami and he was of course up for it and was really friendly. He is from Detroit and electronic music never scared him. We were so happy with the result and the shout out. It was a simple and nice adventure. I feel really lucky to have met Jay Dee it was 8 or 9 years ago.

And of course, the sample for “Raise It Up”, Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk’s “Extra Dry”:

ScottieL is in the Buildinnnnn.

Whatup ML. It’s the return of your boy ScottieL and with this post I am pleased to announce that I will be a regular contributor on the site from now on. I’m reppin’ College Park, MD right now, and I went to high school with a couple fellas who started ML.

If any of you read my Bonnaroo and Camp Bisco reviews, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of electronic music, but my love for music spreads over many genres. Hip Hop, classic rock, indie, reggae; you name it, I probably dig it. Music is basically my life. I play bass in an electronic band, go to shows as much as I possibly can, and when I’m not doing either, I’m usually blasting some shit out of my speakers.

I’m looking forward to helping out with this already great site and providing you guys with the best info I can. I’ll start off with a funny video i just found. It’s not music related, but what the hell, shit’s hilarious.

Enjoy, Peace.

Co$$ – Tomorrow’s Yesterday, Mixtape.

Been waiting on this one. Co$$, from the Blu & Exile school of underground rap, drops a mixtape of unreleased tracks. I’ve always thought of Co$$ as little more than Blu’s weed carrier who can drop a worthwhile verse here and there, but he really stepped up with this mixtape. His bars and his flow are formidable and the production is on point. Best mixtape of the year so far.

Termanology X Method Man (Produced By The Alchemist) Coming Soon.

Normally, I wouldn’t post a video like this, but the news that 2 ML Hollers @ subjects+ 1 Beat Drop Subject are hooking up for a track, had me thinking about it..

Seeing Term doing his chanting in the end, meant I had to do it.
