Kid Cudi Ft. Ratatat – Pursuit Of Happiness, Live on Dave Letterman, Video.

Late pass please, but I didn’t really bother checking this out until I heard Ratatat was there along with Kid Cudi. Check out Evan Mast’s guitar solo which is crazy. Definitely one of my favorite tracks off Man On The Moon (In stores now). It’s crazy that rappers slept on working with Ratatat esp. when they’ve put out so much heat in the past years.

Folerio – You’re So Precious, Video.

Stones Throw’s latest signee through new imprint Good Time Records.

Folerio is the first signing to PB Wolf’s new label Good Time Records. Wolf tried to sign him to Stones Throw, but he declined, saying "Folerio is for the people and Stones Throw is not for the people."

PBW, you’re a fool for this one.

DJ Class – Dance Like a Freak.

Considering we were one of the first blogs to post the remixes of the 1st single (as well as the Kanye assisted remix), I’m The Shit, off DJ Class’s album,  Alameda Coldspring (it’s still bringing us a lot of traffic to this day), it would be  criminal if we didn’t post the 2nd single for you (eventually, I know it’s been out for a bit), the fine reader of ML to bump & grind to.

Santigold gets a dance party started at festivals and on mixtapes.

While you maybe lucky enough to be at The Roots picnic in Philly watching Santigold (the artist formerly known as Santogold) live (I see you Dom & Ben), I am not and instead I have to get by with the following two items to keep me entertained:

First, here is crazy footage from when Santi was performing Unstoppable live at this years Sasquatch Festival, an impromptu dance party started by one dude grows exponentially as the song goes on.

Next Terry Urban put out a mixtape remixing a lot of Santi’s song with a bunch of popular rap songs, before it was out there was some controversy between lawyers, record labels and what not, but in the end Nah Right got their hands on it. If you slept on the Diplo X Santigold mixtape from last year, please dl that as well (to be honest it’s probably my favorite Santi related work).

Tracklisting:

1. M.I.A. Artistes (Ft. Pitbull & Ying Yang Twins)
2. You’ll Find A Way Player (Ft. Andre 3000 & Bun B)
3. Still Tippin’ It (Ft. Slim Thug & Mike Jones)
4. Can’t Say It (Ft. T-Pain)
5. Creating Kryptonite (Ft. Purple Ribbon All-Stars)
6. Fire Superman (Ft. Lil’ Wayne) [Prod. By Mike Cash] 7. Hustlin’ With The Lights Out (Ft. Rick Ross)
8. Shawty Is Starstuck (Ft. The Dream)
9. Unfreakable Girl (Ft. Gucci Mane)
10. Nann Lady (Ft. Trick Daddy & Trina) [Prod. By JKhan] 11. Anne’s Plan (Ft. Chip Tha Ripper) [Prod. By Mike Cash] 12. You’ll Go Crazy (Ft. Young Jeezy) [Prod. By Mike Cash]

ML @ The Prodigy – The Invaders Must Die Tour, 9:30 Club, Washington DC, 5.18.09.

On Monday night, I saw a band live for the first time that I have been checking for more than a decade. I have been listening to The Prodigy since elementary school, in fact their classic The Fat of The Land was one of my first albums that I bought on my own. Last month, when I caught word of them doing a short run in the states to support their recently released Invaders Must Die including a DC stop at the 9:30 Club, I had to jump on it (no Sir Mix-A-Lot).

DC area native Tittsworth opened up for The Prodigy, spinning a dope 1.5 hour set that ranged with everything from dubstep to fatboy slim. Once Tittsworth was done spinning from the corner balcony, it was time for trio known as The Prodigy; Keith, Liam, Maxim along with their guitarist to hit the stage. With Nostalgia thick in the air (35 year old dudes trying to relive college days, I see you!), hit they did. There wasn’t much time for feeling out the crowd as The Prodigy blasted out Worlds on Fire & Their Law, which was shortly followed by my personal favorite, Breathe. Let’s just say there wasn’t a person on either of the clubs 2 floors that wasn’t jumping up and down (for pretty much the rest of the night after that point). They proceeded to run through a bunch of notable songs including The Omen, Poison, and Voodoo People. The Prodigy were pretty much recreating their Greatest Hits album (which stayed in heavy rotation for the good part of my Freshman year of college) live. Halfway through the show Maxim did something I’ve never seen done before at any of the numerous 9:30 show I’ve been to; he performed from on top of the bar while quickly downing a drink, a true performer! The last song before their encore was Comanche (complete with Keith twirling like a helicopter (no Petey Pablo), needless to say that song was one of my favorites of the night. When the Prodigy came out for the encore, they saved one of their biggest songs, Smack My Bitch Up (how many rappers would love to be able to have THAT as a title for a single?!).  But they didn’t end on that particular song, perhaps as a sign of more adrenaline pumping Electronica to come in the future for the Trio, they finished off with Take Me To The Hospital & Out of Space.

(Ed Note: Updated some song titles @ 5/20 8:48PM ET)

I was impressed with the sequencing of their set, they spread their most well known songs through out their set instead of saving them for the end like a lot of live acts tend to do. The last electronic act I saw at 9:30, Justice, left me pretty disappointed, this show was the complete opposite, simply put The Prodigy live is full of energy and kicks ass.

Don’t miss out, here are the remaining dates of the The Invaders Must Die Tour run:

05/20 – House of Blues – Boston, MA
05/22 – The Filmore – Detroit, MI
05/23 – Congress Theater – Chicago, IL
05/26 – The Grove – Anaheim, CA
05/27 – Hollywood Paladium – Los Angeles, CA
05/28 – Warfield Theatre – San Francisco, CA
05/30 – WAMU Theatre – Seattle, WA

Don’t forget your earplugs, kids. Otherwise, you might be saying the same thing as the message scribbled on the cover of one of  Liam’s laptops: “TAKE ME TO A HOSPITAL”.

Invaders Must Die is in stores now.

Notes:

*You are probably wondering, WTF is up with the Camera phone pictures? Well, if you were following on twitter, you would have known that I experienced one of my biggest failures of my concert going history. I got a media accreditation and all that, only to realize after the club that I lugged along a dSLR camera WITHOUT A BATTERY. UGH.

*Shout out to the couple next to me on the balcony that were doing the most eclectic set of dance moves ever, including: cradling baby, a running man, ballroom dancing, rope climbing, the weight lift.. oh and when I was sitting down for a bit, they thrusted right at my eye level, sweet. To cap their dancing, this dude let his girl tie his scarf around the waist. Sadly though, I think she saw people chuckling as she proceeded to untie it shortly afterward.

*This is the first show I’ve seen at 9:30 that had a barricade at the front, I guess they know Prodigy fans don’t mess around.

*Lastly, a huge thanks to Adam & Sioux from Magnum PR for working with ML to make this happen!

From The Underground: Jamie Radford.

Jamie Radford is an Atlanta-based rapper and producer. He reached out to me about his new album, released under the pseudonym Dino & Bride (awesome album cover pictured above). It’s an excellent electronica-influenced hip hop album composed mostly of instrumentals, with two vocal features which you can check out below. I hear a lot of Prefuse 73 and Dabrye in his music – Jamie’s instrumentals are spacey and crispy, with thin, stiff drums and airy synthesizers. Makes for great late night listening. Jamie gifted me with a few free tracks to share off the album. You can stream Dino & Bride in its entirety here and cop his other releases at his last.fm page.

Major Lazer Ft. Santigold – Hold The Line.

Is 4.20 the new “in” day to flood the internets with dope music (as if on other days there weren’t floods of music already, ha)? Anyway, Diplo compadre Major Lazer hooks up with Santogold Santigold for this track which Lazer aptly describes as something “like a surf rock ragga thingamajig, zeen!’”. Check it out:
