The Movement is made up of students from the Bronx and the track was produced by the students. I definitely feel the track’s message.
On a lighter note: Casey works at my office and apparently a few weeks back everyone at the office was forwarding around the video for “White Girls“. Good times.
Juan Epstein (Hot 97’s Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg) discovers a provocative young talent on the streets of New York City. Something tells me we haven’t heard the last of Prince Metropolis Nome.
Y’all remember Roc C? He’s on Stones Throw but hasn’t put anything out on there since his ’06 debut. He’s always been the most “conventional” sounding rapper on there, not that that’s a bad thing.
I found this new Roc C track through Oh No’s blog (which I stumbled onto through So Much Silence). I have no idea how a song featuring two of the West Coast’s biggest up-and-comers slipped under the radar, but check it out anyway.
A new track from ML fav Black ELement, produced by 6th Sense of Notherground Music. This one is actually not on A Major Minority, but still very dope. As a bonus, check out two tracks El sent me a while ago but forgot to post (my bad, man!)
Kam Moye (a.k.a. Supastition) just released a free online only EP, the Self Centered EP. Supastition is definitely a cat I’m always checking for, especially after hearing him murder his freestyle on the Halftime Show’s 10th Anniversary. Check Shake for audio of the freestyle session.
Tracklisting:
01. Where & Why – produced by D.R. 02. Welcome to My Life – produced by Croup 03. Change of Heart – produced by M-phazes 04. Reach One ft Kaze – produced by Eric G 05. Around the World ft DJ Wreckineyez – produced by Veterano 06. Black Enough? – produced by Eric G 07. Give It Up – produced by D.R. 08. Self-Centered – produced by D.R.
Be on the look out for Kam’s upcoming full length, Splitting Image, which will feature production from Illmind, Khrysis, DJ Babu, and D.R. as well as guest appearances from One Be Lo and others.
Dope QN5 artist Substantial managed to get his video for “It’s You” on regular rotation on MTV.
Fellow QN5 member Tonedeff responds on the QN5 Music blog:
I woke up this morning to the best alarm clock an indie Hip Hop label owner could wake up to – Substantial’s “It’s You” video being played at the top of the morning on MTV! Yes, I mean MTV-mtv…not MTV2. This is a huge break for us!
Between this and me catching U- N-I’s “Beautiful Day” vid on Sucker Free the other day, quality indie hip-hop is finally getting its due.
