Charles Hamilton – And Then They Played Dilla.

Looky here, Charles Hamilton. I secretly wish Will Smith would come be my best friend and hook me up with the girl of my dreams just as much as the next guy. But Hitch is not an appropriate movie to sample. Scarface? Yes. The Godfather? Sure. Seinfeld? If you do it right, yes. But randomly throwing in lines from Hitch is off limits unless you’re a pioneering oddball genius like RZA.

Um, oh yeah. Dude dropped another mixtape. This one is all Dilla beats and Charles keeps the rhymes nice. It’s a quickie though. After the eighth track, it’s all instrumentals. The second mixtape in the Hamiltonization Process. Whatever, at least he doesn’t constantly pimp his websites like before.

Legend, DJ Nice & Statik Selektah – Back 2 The Basics (Leaders Of The New School).

New joints from some of my favorites as well as other recent tracks. I wasn’t sure if I was going to post this, but the Blu, Curren$y and Stimuli tracks convinced me. If you want to show someone what hip-hop is about right now, link them to Metal Lungies. If they aren’t rocking with the Internet yet, give them a copy of this mixtape. DJ Nice, what’s good?

Rapper Big Pooh – Rapper’s Delight.

Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother just dropped a dope mixtape with production from Nottz, J Dilla, Khrysis, Focus, 9th Wonder, Illmind and Tha Bizness. Never having been a fan of Little Brother, I was surprised to hear Pooh holding it down lyrically. Oh, and "Plastic Cups" is now the official beer pong anthem.

NandoMcflyy – SNES.

Any mixtpae with Super Mario World on the cover is cool by me. I first heard NandoMcflyy, a DC rapper, on a song with Wale where there went in over some acoustic guitar. His mixtape is plenty more guitars and it sounds pretty good. I’ve been liking a few guys out of DC recently: Wale of course, X.O. and now Nando.

But dude gets a definite ‘fuck you’ for the song "Ash" which contains a sample that is just plain wrong. Not going to say what it is, but here’s a clue. It might even be worse than Charles Hamilton‘s "Windows Media Player" track. Hate aside, check him out.

Charles Hamilton – Death Of The Mixtape Rapper.

New mixtape from the Sonic the Hedgehog loving Internet rapper Charles Hamilton. Good looks on having Shadow on the cover, because everyone loved that game.

Shit is kinda fresh. “Windows Media Player” is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard though.

The Mad Rapper – Appreciate The Hate: The Mad Rapper Chronicles Volume 1.

Hosted by the homie Statik Selektah, Appreciate the Hate is a NY mixtape in the classic sense of the word. It’s got hot verses from every underground NY rapper who’s never gonna blow and genuinely funny skits (the blogs one made me smile). On top of that, the tape is very polished and leaves the annoying DJ shit at the door. It also features the Joell Ortiz murder victim, "Brooklyn Let’s Go!".

The Madd Rapper/D-Dot’s relevance to NY hip-hop is often overlooked and at the end of the tape, there’s a bunch of his OG shit: rare Bad Boy tracks, the "Stir Crazy" track with Eminem and even "How to Rob". This tape is like a trip through old New York.

Busta Rhymes – I’ve Already Outshined Your Favorite Rapper: Part 2.

Busta Rhymes has really surprised me with the quality of his music these days and I’m eagerly anticipating Blessed, which is supposedly tied up with sample clearance issues. Today’s Busta isn’t as goofy as he was in the old days, but he’s still more fiery on the mic than today’s average screwface monotone rapper. Game drops in with a great verse and the long forgotten thong aficionado Sisqo shows up on a song called “Hump On You”. Dudes in Busta’s camp like Show Money and  Reek Da Villain supply him with solid verses here and there too.

1. Outshined Intro
2. Nuff Gun Shots
3. This May Be My Last Time
4. Give A Damn f. Show Money & Reek Da Villain
5. Your Time Has Come
6. Packing Them Things

8. Cleaner Than A Preacher f. Pooh Bear
9. Run The Block
10. Kill The Whole Town f. Reek Da Villain

DJ Muggs & Planet Asia – Pain Language The Mixtape.

DJ Muggs is sorely underrated. This mixtape is a prelude to his new project with Planet Asia, Pain Language. Muggs’ beats are incredible; they range from sinister to funky to soulful to exotic. Planet Asia brings a classic West Coast flow and seals the deal. It seems like the West is dropping some of the most solid music these days. Can’t wait for the album.
