After years of releasing EPs and mixes that we became borderline obsessed with, Jamie XX has announced a release date for his debut LP. In Colour will be released on June 2nd via Young Turks. BUT, you’re in luck, instead of waiting until June you can now hear a four track preview right here along with a video to treat your eyes, enjoy!
R&B singer Banks’ debut album, Goddess, was released this week to much anticipation. We’ve been fans of Banks for a while, along with the rest of the internet, due to her soulful covers of The Weeknd and Aaliyah. “Beggin for Thread” and “Alibi” are newer tracks to note although the parts of the album that are the most solid are the tracks that were released on her 2013 EP, London. Goddess as a whole is a really solid debut, especially for someone who was selling out shows before she even had a record deal in the works.
The new Death From Above 1979 album, The Physical World, is now streaming on iTunes and we have actually been waiting ten years for this day. At first listen it sounds like DFA1979 still have what made us so obsessed with them back in ’04. The album will be officially released on 9/9/14.
Alt-J is back with “Hunger of the Pine” off of their upcoming album This Is All Yours. The track sounds pretty reminiscent of their last album, building up haunting vocals and staccato beats until… wait… who’s that we hear? Is that…. is that Miley Cyrus? Yeah, you heard us correctly, Alt-J sampled Miley Cyrus. We gotta say, we don’t hate it. Check it out below.
This Is All Yours is available for pre-order and is expected to be released on September 22, 2014.
If you’ve been eagerly awaiting Chromeo’s new album, White Women, like we have, you can stream it on iTunes Radio! Let us know what you think, we’re betting it’s going to be the highlight of our summers.
We’ve been waiting on pins and needles for a new track from Beat Drop alum Chromeo since they teased us back in November with Sexy Socialite and, duh, they’re starting 2014 out strong by teaming up with another one of our favorites: Toro Y Moi. Come Alive stays true to Chromeo’s funk roots with Chaz Bundick’s vocals adding an extra layer of awesome. Can they just team up and create a super band already?
Chromeo has mentioned that on the forthcoming White Women there will be appearances from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney, and Solange Knowles. Needless to say… we’re excited.
Holy. Shit. If you’re looking for a solid hour of music to get you through your commute, or literally anything else you might be doing, look no further. The entire mixtape is solid and once you hit the last six tracks it gets really real. AND a bonus with two Purity Ring tracks serving as book ends for this mix, absolutely no complaints. We last brought The Hood Internet to your attention when we were obsessed with Foster the People (still obsessed… but taking a healthy break to mix things up). Also, a double bonus, the mixtape has my favorite Hood Internet cover art to date created by Steff Bomb.
You can listen below and/or download from their site or on Soundcloud
Local Natives announced today that they not only have a new single but that they will be releasing their sophomore album, Hummingbird, in January 2013 (!!!!). Fans have been waiting not so patiently for something new from the band whose first album was one of the most solidly produced albums I’ve ever listened to.
Local Natives’ new single, Breakers, proves that they are still able to knock it out of the park even after a 3 year break. It has a hint of Grizzly Bear’s sound that seems so popular this fall BUT Local Natives has done it right, they still sound uniquely like themselves with their harmonizing and solid percussion.
Swedish natives Miike Snow recently released the highly anticipated follow up to their self titled album. Happy To You has arrived two years later but it was worth the wait. The album builds on the foundation its predecessor laid, adding more layers to their sound, some dissonant and some made purely for dancing. There really isn’t a single track on Happy To You that isn’t noteworthy. The two most circulated tracks thus far have been Devil’s Work and The Wave but my personal favorite is Pretender (and also the transition from the track leading up to it, Bavarian #1). If you can, I would recommend getting your hands on the Deluxe Version since it includes two phenmenal remixes by Wolfgang Gartner and Alex Metric.
Bombay Bicycle Club’s A Different Kind of Fix only dropped two days ago but that hasn’t stopped my iTunes from already having it on repeat five times in a row (it would probably be a higher number, but a girls gotta go to class). Each track flows so seamlessly to the next that by the time the album finishes it feels like you’re still on the first song without anything feeling redundant in the least. The front running track seems to be Lights Out, Words Gone featuring bouncing guitar, etherial vocals, and steady cymbals. This might be my favorite album that Bombay has released so I would catch it now so you can say you heard it first (we all wanna be first, right?).
