I’ve been banging the Focus…-produced Marsha Ambrosius mixtape Yours Trulysince it came out, so I had to bring it back for the untagged version. Mixtape DJs get a lot of hate around these parts, but is it possible that this tape is a little less exciting without Don Cannon’s well-placed gunshots and yelling? Or is it just the lack of mixing? Overall, the mixtape has a less aggressive vibe, which is a good thing on songs like “I Lost You” and a bad thing on songs like “Murdah.”
Been waiting on this one. Co$$, from the Blu & Exile school of underground rap, drops a mixtape of unreleased tracks. I’ve always thought of Co$$ as little more than Blu’s weed carrier who can drop a worthwhile verse here and there, but he really stepped up with this mixtape. His bars and his flow are formidable and the production is on point. Best mixtape of the year so far.
Lessondary member Che Grand adds a tight verse to a Jay Electronica’s demo for “Hagler” off Scratches & Demo Tape Vol.1. The result is unsurprisingly dope. These two should hook up for a genuine collaboration; their voices complement each other nicely.
An unofficial mixtape of mostly new leftovers from Nas’ last album. While it’s understandable why most of these songs were left off the album (they would have been out of place or they just suck), the tape has a lot of quality tracks. “Livin’ It” and “Something Foul” have a jazzy sound which has been sorely lacking from the last few Nas albums. The DJ Green Lantern-produced “Fear of the Mandingo” is more incendiary than anything on the album and the Kanye-produced love song “Mean The World To Me” is a nice change of pace, though it sounds unfinished.
There are untagged versions of a few of these tracks out there already, but the mixtape is still worth a listen for the new stuff. Be aware that the DJ’s tags are computer-smashingly annoying.
I have been waiting on this for like 2 months. I held out on listening to the Imeem stream because I don’t really mess with webstreams especially for mixtapes/albums, also I knew it wasn’t the final version. So I let the antcipation build. It was worth the wait, this mastered final version is one sleek remix mixtape.

I’ve been bumping this tape quite a bit recently. Fashawn is pretty nice on the mic and the beat selection is choice, including some joints produced by Exile. My one criticism is that Fashawn doesn’t have much of an identity as an emcee yet, but he’s getting there.
New mixtape from Aftermath’s Marsha Ambrosius, produced by Focus, compiled and mixed by Don Cannon. Marsha has a great voice and Focus delivers his best production yet. The mixtape features Phonte of Little Brother, The Game and Busta Rhymes. If you need a preview, check my last post.
GLC did a mixtape with DJ RTC. GLC has to be on of my favorites on GOOD. This is definitely some fire from Chi town. The mixtape features Talib Kweli, Chip Tha Ripper, Soulstice, Kanye West, Consequence, John Legend, Naledge, Mikkey Halsted and more.
New Clipse mixtape courtesy of Complex and Play Cloths. This next album should really be something. We interviewed these guys back in July. They talked about the album, other stuff too.
Some slower tracks on this one. My favorite so far is “So Fly (Now We’ve Had Her)”
Street Fighter II has been remastered into HD for a release on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. To commemorate the occasion, they put together the Street Fighter Underground Remix mixtape, with all the instrumentals sampled from the game (even the sound effects and the announcers!) East of LA has several more tracks from the soundtrack for download, including tracks by Hieroglyphics and Zion I. Quality shit.
