Tourist – I Can’t Keep Up.

Fresh off of a stint in the U.S., Tourist has debuted his first music video for his upcoming EP, Patterns. “I Can’t Keep Up” is the first track that Tourist has produced that has a guest vocalist and we were not disappointed. Will Heard, a British singer/songwriter, brings a good dose of soul that elevates Tourist’s sound and keeps it from blending into the background. The video itself doesn’t give us a glimpse of Tourist or Will in action but gives you some beautiful vistas that make you want to put that Chromecast to good use.

Chromeo – Come Alive (Ft. Toro Y Moi).

We’ve been waiting on pins and needles for a new track from Beat Drop alum Chromeo since they teased us back in November with Sexy Socialite and, duh, they’re starting 2014 out strong by teaming up with another one of our favorites: Toro Y Moi. Come Alive stays true to Chromeo’s funk roots with Chaz Bundick’s vocals adding an extra layer of awesome. Can they just team up and create a super band already?

Chromeo has mentioned that on the forthcoming White Women there will be appearances from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney, and Solange Knowles. Needless to say… we’re excited.

Holy Ghost! – Hold On, Cover.

I’m not gonna lie… what I feel like I need in my life right now is more Drake, anything Drake. So, needless to say, I got pretty excited when I saw that Holy Ghost! had done a cover of ‘Hold On’. Playing to their strengths they deliver an ultra-synthy version of the jam (that sounds slightly less like it was created on a Casio keyboard). Check it out below:

Metallungies Revisits CSS at 9:30 Club, 7.1.13.

I should have known the evening was doomed when I saw that Olay was a sponsor. Really, any sponsored show that isn’t a festival is usually pretty questionable. As soon as we walked in it was clear that only a small group of people were going to show up. The people that are still living as if it were 2008, constantly talking about how cool MGMT is (nope) and “have you heard of this band called Passion Pit?” (stop it). Even the band members themselves seemed tired, dated. This all came as a surprise to me, the last time I saw CSS was actually the first time I ever went on an adventure in the name of Metallungies and I honestly had a blast. How much can a band change in two years? Or have my tastes really changed that much? Reflectively, I think it’s one of those situations where you grow centimeter by centimeter over the course of a year and by the time summer rolls around your tall tee has become a crop top. Music has changed pretty drastically over the last four or five years speaking from a stylistic production level. CSS’ sound just isn’t “in” anymore. They sound more like a show you stumble upon in a local neighborhood rather than a band that has been producing albums for years. They haven’t evolved. I expected more from the show in general; a slightly less lethargic crowd, a slightly more energetic band… if you’re playing the guitar, I want to feel that you know how to play it well. It was a strange and disappointing evening, salvaged only by the bartender trusting me with real glass when I ordered a drink, a testament to how thin the crowd was and therefore how lacking the fan base is.

Metallungies at Bonnaroo 2013.

Another June is here and what do you know, MetalLungies is going back to a farm south of Nashville in Manchester, TN, yet again.

As long we even have 56k-esque data service on our phone we will try to vine, instagram, twitter as much as possible as FCC regulations allow.

Not braving the best farm of ten-a-key? Ustream will be streaming all weekend long a pretty comprehensive offering of the acts performing live.

Instead of just listing a bunch of names like we have in years past, or hyping up some scenester dude name Paul McCartney, Meaghatron & Myself picked out some #protip picks to see at the festival.

Check them after the jump.

Pigeon- Daft Punk Medley.

Well, this just made my work day exponentially better. Perfect in the background but even better if you stick around and watch the video, so much talent I feel like my head is going to explode.

The Hood Internet- The Mixtape Volume Seven.

Holy. Shit. If you’re looking for a solid hour of music to get you through your commute, or literally anything else you might be doing, look no further. The entire mixtape is solid and once you hit the last six tracks it gets really real. AND a bonus with two Purity Ring tracks serving as book ends for this mix, absolutely no complaints. We last brought The Hood Internet to your attention when we were obsessed with Foster the People (still obsessed… but taking a healthy break to mix things up). Also, a double bonus, the mixtape has my favorite Hood Internet cover art to date created by Steff Bomb.

You can listen below and/or download from their site or on Soundcloud

Tourist- Tonight, Single.

We told you all about Tourist back in April and he’s back now with a new single off of an upcoming EP that has him showing that he can mix something a little darker. Tonight builds like Placid Acid does but shows a breadth in style, I dig it.

Local Natives- Breakers.

Local Natives announced today that they not only have a new single but that they will be releasing their sophomore album, Hummingbird, in January 2013 (!!!!). Fans have been waiting not so patiently for something new from the band whose first album was one of the most solidly produced albums I’ve ever listened to.

Local Natives’ new single, Breakers, proves that they are still able to knock it out of the park even after a 3 year break. It has a hint of Grizzly Bear’s sound that seems so popular this fall BUT Local Natives has done it right, they still sound uniquely like themselves with their harmonizing and  solid percussion.
