I almost fell out of bed when I saw this on sportscenter last night. It was that awesome. Jeff Xavier’s Brother on the court> male streaker. I love the announcers reaction when they though it was just some random guy, and not a players’ brother.
Always been a fan of MTV’s documentary style shows from True Life to Diary (they need to bring it back). The most recent one, Britney Spears: For The Record was a very interesting perspective on the life she can’t seem to escape. Based on the teaser trailer, this TI series looks like another winner. Premieres Tuesday February 10 at 9pm EST.
I have been sleeping on Best Week Ever this year (and a lot of TV in general), watching this the other night made me realize what a fool I am for not keeping up. I missed out on a lot of awesome pop culture stuff from kids eating 30 magnets to gropings on reality shows. Thankfully, the BWE crew did the legwork for me and wrapped up the whole year in a nice, like always-funny package. If you need the best recap of all things pop culture, have amnesia, or just have time to kill before the champagne is ready, watch this.
Also be sure to check out KNOWxONE’s year end wrapup featuring some serious Up & Comers.. and yours truly musing on the year that was.
You know you are major when not only do you get a cameo, but you get to perform on a kids show. The Roots did just that appearing on the Nickelodeon show Yo Gabba Gabba.
Check the performance of Lovely, Love My Family below:
In other pertinent Roots news, according to a fewsites (and mysteriously disappearing videos), The Roots maybe going on a touring hiatus come March in order to become the house band for Jimmy Fallon’s takeover of Conan’s Late Night show. If this turns out true (all signs are pointing to it, it was even hinted to in that OKP ?uestlove Famous People thread), I need to catch The Roots one more time live before this (as do you!), because they are one of the best live acts, ever.
Tomorrow night MTV’s Total Request Live pulls the plug on its 10+ year existence with a reunion of sorts. Both artists that were a big part of TRL and former hosts are scheduled to appear. Honestly, I’ll be tuning in- I’ve always had a soft spot for the show, it was the thing to watch when I got home from Middle School in the late 90s. I had the 1-800 number programmed into the speed dial of our home phone…and damn it I was psyched when I got to request an Eve video (before you say anything the other option was 98 Degrees, ok?) with Carson, street cred be damned. I was also lame enough to record the moment of glory that was my call-in on VHS. Other than that some of my best personal memories were the EMtv special where Eminem took over the show, Noel Gallagher being high out of his mind during his appearance, and the Spankin New Music week which had 2 Rage Against the Machine performances around the release of The Battle of Los Angeles. Hopefully I’ll recall some more from the finale.
The finale airs on this Sunday on MTV at 8pm.
Read the full details of who is scheduled to appear, reminisce with a 60 second recap of TRL’s history (including Tyra calling Kanye “Kane”) and a clip of Outkast Andre 3000 performing Hey Ya live on TRL, all after the jump.
Dj01, as a part of his plea agreement, is going to be live blogging a marathon of MTV’s reality show Busted from the studios starting at 2 till about 3. Hit up the site then for his wild commentary and inside info from Busted subjects. Check back tomorrow at 2 to watch it go down.
Busted airs live Saturday October 25th 2pmET/PT – 7pm ET/PT
This is probably the first and only mention Palin gets on ML, she doesn’t even need to be there really. Amy Pohler made the whole skit with her Cypress Hill imitation. Moose are shook regardless.
VH1 had a party at a swanky Times Square club called Opera for a screening of its Hip-Hop Honors show. ML was in the building taking advantage of the free pasta, mini-burgers and crabcakes (don’t worry mom, Knobbz kept it kosher). We watched the show live on a screen. The setup was less than ideal for viewing, but I was able to catch Jim Jones doing a verse of “We Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That.” As far as I could tell, there wasn’t a repeat of Fiascogate. Honorees included Cypress Hill, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, Too $hort, De La Soul and Isaac Hayes. And performers? They didn’t do any of their own songs, but damn. I didn’t stay late enough to see anyone famous at the after-party, but the music was so loud that I wouldn’t have even been able to tell Ghostface that it was a travesty that his scene was cut from Iron Man.
Hip-Hop Honors premieres Monday October 6th at 10/9c on VH1.
